About Lawjynriew

Ka shnong Lawjynriew originally began as a small Dong (locality) under the shnong of Nongthymmai in Shillong during the early 1870s. In its early days, the area consisted of only a few scattered settlements primarily inhabited by members of the Kharkongor Clan.

Over the years, the locality expanded steadily as more families settled in the area, gradually transforming it into a vibrant and growing community.

Today, Lawjynriew comprises approximately 2,198 households with a population of more than 7,299 residents. What began as a small settlement has now developed into one of the prominent residential areas within the Nongthymmai region of Shillong.

Localities (Dongs) The shnong presently consists of eight localities (Dongs): Jylli Shop – established around the 1880s Golden Estate – established between 1913–1915 Lumbhalang Lumbasuk A Lumbasuk B Rngi Jynriew Neng – established in 1975 Rngi Jynriew Rum – established in 1982 Lumkut – the khun khatduh locality established after 2000 These localities together form the shnong of Lawjynriew.

Institutions Lawjynriew hosts a number of educational and social institutions including: Nepali Higher Secondary School St. Ferrando School Morning Star Higher Secondary School and College Eriben Presbyterian Secondary School Dinet Manik Memorial Higher Secondary School Iaikyntiew College Arnest Music School Blind Leads Trust The presence of these institutions has contributed significantly to the development of the locality and has attracted many students and residents from across the region.
